On Friday night, we went to Duisburg to watch Estonian conductor Anu Tali lead the Bochumer Symphoniker in performing Gavin Bryars' The Sinking of the Titanic. We hung out at the Gebläsehalle beforehand, waiting for the show to start, since some of us were meeting for the first time. Here they are...
The jury walked the red carpet...
buds
in search of the washrooms... they were locked :(
whatever.

we got the tickets, we're ready to go
group jury shot!
and... with our announcement to the show, we headed in
at the pause, the jury were treated like real VIP's... they got free COLA!!
how fast can you drink?
or maybe the better question... how many can you drink?
THAT'S HOW MANY
the jury meet-and-greeted
and of course, posed for more pictures
after the show, we were supposed to meet with Anu Tali for an artist talk... but first we had to get into the room. LOCKED OUT!!!
finally, in... with food and drink waiting
We spoke with Ms. Tali, and two horn players, Joost van Elst and Jodie Lawson. The jury asked how long they rehearsed (3 days), said how dark and sad The Sinking of the Titanic was, and asked what the talking was about in the third piece (Bryars' Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet). They all said they'd go to another concert again... a good sign of a good night.
